Vol. 6 Samantha & her babies ～サマンサママと赤ちゃんたち ～
.。゜+.(=＾T＾=)゜+.゜オハイオはただいま冬になったり初夏になったりの気候です。ここ最近は最低気温も氷点下。そのせいなのか、ほかのレストランへ赴いているのか、ウッドチャックは来たり来なかったりです。
下は、4月頭のぽかぽか陽気の日に、2度目の顔出しに来たウッドチャックです。
The woodchuck came back for the second time when we finally had a warm day. She doesn't look like the mom, Samantha... but I'm not sure.
やっぱりサマンサママではない気がします…子どもの方でいいのではないかと… サマンサだと、ふてぶてしさがもっとあるというか…
サマ「え！？」 去年のサマです。
This is Samantha last year.
サマンサは正面から見ると、鼻の上に特徴的な模様があります。
Sam has a unique pattern on her nose.
サイコロの５の目のような白い模様があるのです。
今年、来始めたのがサマかサマでないか、そのうち分かるでしょう。
二度寝していたのならお腹が空いたことでしょう。これは…大根を食べています。
It is hard to recognize her by the pattern on her nose. I need to take a better picture of her so I can learn to recognize the pattern on her nose.

一昨年のサマです。
This is Sam 2 years ago. Both pictures show the same 2 hairs of eyebrow.
目の上のムダ毛２本が同じ・・・
戻ってきたのはサマだったようです。
となると去年と同じ。
サマは戻ってくるけど赤ちゃんは戻ってこないんですよね。
サマが戻ってきてくれたのはうれしいですが、そこそこ仲良くなれた赤ちゃんに会えないのはさみしいものです。
サマ「この場所は渡さない（ニヤリ）」
Sam came back this year, but her babies did not come back, just like last year... She didn't finish her favorite food this time.
私の投げたキャベツの芯を拾って食べています。休み明けでアゴが疲れたのか、芯を途中で放り出して去っていきました…。そして、大好物のニンジン、ブルーベリー、バナナも残っているという…ちなみにバナナの中身は我々人間が食べるのでサマにはもともと皮しかあげていません。
ここからは、別名：ゴミ処理隊長サマンサと、その赤ちゃんの去年の写真です。
…レストランの朝は忙しい…
食材の調達と盛り付け、セッティングです。

In June, there is little dandelion left, so I serve plantain salad for them instead.
季節は6月。タンポポが品薄になってくるのでオオバコてんこ盛りサラダのお通しを用意させていただいております。
赤ちゃんが来ました。これは鼻に黒い三角のあるトリーシャです。
One of the babies, Trisha, came to eat! She has a dark triangle on her nose.
たいてい体重かけすぎて倒します。
The babies always tip over the basket and the dish.
サマンサも、入れ物をバインバイン何度も倒します。

サマンサの餌付けは近づくというよりも、離れたところからお野菜を投げて渡すことから始めたのですが、サマの子どもの一人、バターカップはこれまでも何度か近づいていたためか、今回も容易に近づけました。
The baby, Buttercup, often had come close to me, following mom, so it wasn't so difficult to get close to her step by step when her face was down while eating food.
ウッドチャックやリスに近づくときは、私は「だるまさんが転んだ」方式で近づきます。餌をとるために顔を下に向けるのでその瞬間だけ前に進みます(笑)。
ここまで近づけました。

頭に止まったハエまでよく見えます(笑)。

餌付けの瞬間は意外に早くやってきました。
I never expected the new baby, Buttercup, would let me hand feed her so soon.

簡単に近づけるので、この後もバターカップへの餌付けは順調。
Suddenly hand-feeding to her became easy.
Corn is their favorite. I hope I can hand-feed to other babies!?
もしかすると、この調子でほかの赤ちゃんにも餌付けができるでしょうか!?
