Vol.8 Samantha & her babies ～サマンサママと赤ちゃんたち～
.。゜+.(=＾T＾=)゜+.゜山のようにある去年の写真…ウッドチャック母（サマンサ）と5匹の赤ちゃんたちの様子を引き続きお届けいたします。
庭のクローバーを食べ歩きするママと、それに続く赤ちゃん。これは、鼻の黒い三角が特徴的なトリーシャです。

2匹が戻ったところを見たバタ―カップがなぜか毛を逆立てています。やきもちでしょうか。
Buttercup found mom and Trisha together. Is she jealous? She looks angry.
お皿に種を置いたら、すぐにサマンサが赤ちゃん（バターカップ）と一緒に出てきて一緒に食べ始めました。サマンサの方が私に警戒中。
As soon as I put bird seed in the bowl, Samantha came to it with Buttercup. Still Sam is a little vigilant. Even Buttercup's got used to eating close to me.
しかし大好きな種の誘惑にはかないません。
Sam wants the seeds more than being vigilant.
なんだかんだで私からラディッシュをもらって食べるサマンサ
Sam got a radish from me.
普段、サマンサは私からもらうとその場では食べず、お持ち帰りして森の入り口のところで食べるという用心深さを持っています。
こんなふうに。
Mom Samantha is vigilant and usually eats food at the entrance of the woods after she gets a treat from me. But something is happening this time.

Vol.7 Samantha & her babies ～サマンサママと赤ちゃんたち～
オハイオは4月まで冬の気候が続き、4月の終わりに春のような日が1週間くらいあったかと思うと、5月から夏！という感じなのですが…
ときおり暖かい日を挟みながらも、まだまだ10℃以下の日が続いています。朝方には氷点下になるときもまだあります。手袋が必要な日もありました…
今年は、冬の寒さが緩かった分（雪がほとんど積もりませんでした）、5月になっても冬がだらだらと続いているようです。
We are still waiting for the spring in Ohio... The temperature sometimes is still dropping below 32F...
I wonder when I will be able to transplant these outside...
These seeds are from the fruits and vegetables that I ate last year. Spaghetti squash, I planted about 2 weeks ago, can barely stand up by itself.
スパゲティ・スクワッシュ、プチトマト、メロン、去年食べたものの種を取っておいて植えたら、元気に芽を出してくれました。スクワッシュはカボチャの仲間のようですが、カボチャは成長がいいようですね。早いところ外に植えて日の光をたくさん浴びてほしいのですが、氷点下になったりするのでまだ植え替えができません。この寒さで残り少ないタンポポが枯れているのも見ました。
.。゜+.(=＾T＾=)゜+.゜寒いせいなのか、母ウッドチャック・サマンサは来たり来なかったりですが、去年も冬眠から目覚めた当初はそんな感じでした。
さて、今日もサマンサが…

この日に来たのはサマンサではなかったようです。

I don't recognize these big teeth.
I assume this woodchuck with the big teeth must be a male.
Samantha's teeth don't show when she closes her mouth like this woodchuck.
Does any Woodchuck specialist know about this?
I googled "woodchuck specialist", when the results came up they are mostly about "woodchuck removal specialist"...

Oh! Noooooooo!!!! Someone was really cooking woodchuck...!!
ここ数年観察を続けてきた感じですと、口を閉じても歯が見えるのはオスではないかと思うのです。どなたかウッドチャックのスペシャリスト、あるいは愛好家の方、ご存じではないでしょうか？
ちなみに、ウッドチャック・スペシャリスト、でググると、ウッドチャックの駆除のページが出てきてしまいます…探しているのはそっちのスペシャリストではないんですが…
この検索結果の中で、恐ろしいウェブサイトを発見してしまいました…
ウッドチャック・シチュー・・・
ウッドチャックを食べる人の話は聞いたことがないですし、ウッドチャック・サイダーというお酒もあるので、何の気なしにそのページを開いたのですが…
文字通りウッドチャックをシチューにしているウェブサイトでした…
「ぎやあああぁぁあああ！！」と叫んでしましました…
若いウッドチャックだともっと軟らかいとかコメントもあって…
私はウッドチャックを愛でるあまり、彼らを食べるなんてとてもとても…
かぶりつきたいほどかわいいのは確かですが…
気を取り直し…。゜+.(=＾T＾=)゜+.゜
毎年違ったタイプのオス（だと私が思っている）がサマンサと入れ違いに庭にやってくるのですが、彼らが、その年のサマンサの旦那さんではないかと思っています。毎年違う旦那さんなのか同じなのかは不明。
やっぱり顔を合わす頻度が高いとケンカになりやすいということはあります…。このコロナ禍で離婚するカップルが多くなったとも聞きます…ウッドチャックたちも一緒には現れず、時間をずらして一人ずつ来るようです…よく知りませんが(^^;)
旦那さんらしき人が来ない日はサマンサが来ます。

Oops, I thought this was Samantha, then I realized it can't be her because she has thicker hair on her belly.
いや、やっぱりこれ、違いますね。お腹の部分の毛が薄い。サマはもっとビッシリ毛が密集しています。
この特徴的なハゲ(?)は…見たことがあります…

去年の、まだ赤ちゃんだったころのバターカップです！

赤ちゃんのうちはみんなおなかの毛が薄かったので、大人になるとサマンサのように腹毛ビッシリになるのかと思っていたのですが、バターカップはこれが特徴なのか、これから濃くなっていくのでしょうか。
あれがバターカップさんならば…もし私を覚えていてくれているなら…
I had not seen any babies come back from the previous year, so far. Is this the first baby to come back?

サマンサはもう少し用心深く、私からご飯を受け取ると、離れたところへ行ってそこで食べて、食べ終わるとまたもらいに来ては逃げる（笑）の繰り返しです。
バターカップはそんなサマンサのそばで、赤ちゃんの頃から手渡しでご飯を受け取っていたので、私に対してはそんなに警戒心が強くありませんでした。

去年は母サマンサだけしか戻ってこなかったのですが、今年は赤ちゃんが戻ってきてくれました！
サマンサもそのうち戻ってくるでしょう！

6月半ばともなるとタンポポがなくなってくるので、代わりにオオバコを用意します。
日中は熱いので、前日の夕方に用意しておきます。

Strawberries... are one of Sam's favorites too...
写真は、バタちゃんがイチゴをゲットしたところなのですが、イチゴはサマンサも大好物なのでこの後ひと悶着が…（十分なイチゴを準備してなくてごめんね）
平然と子どもの苺を奪い食べるサマンサ…

罰が当たる…そんな仏教の概念がここアメリカにも存在したようです…

0:44のところでサマンサに天罰が下っています。
The curse from the babies happens at 0:44 on the video... mom swallowed the strawberry too quick.
Besides... the babies have lots of flies on them. The flies are different from ones that I know. They are smaller than normal flies.
慌てて食べたからでしょう…窒息しかけています…
しかし…子どもたちに群がるハエがすごい！これは、ウンチに群がるような銀バエではなくて、あまり見たことがないようなハエなのです。ウッドチャックにご飯を上げていると私の方にもこのハエが移ってきてしまい、家の中まで付いてきてしまうことがあるのですが、ティッシュで割と簡単に捕獲できる、おっとりしたハエです。その割にはウッドチャックが走って逃げる時には、ロデオ状態でウッドチャックに付着したまま一緒に去って行きます。
とにかく…奪い合いさえなければ、ほのぼのとしたウッドチャック親子の食事風景なのですけどね…

仲良しトリーシャとバターカップ。バタの方が毛色が黄色っぽいです。サマンサはグレーっぽいので、お父さんが毛色の薄い方なんだと思います。
Good buddies, Buttercup and Trisha. Buttercup has more yellowish hair. Mom has more darker hair, so I think her father must have this kind of light color hair also.
バターカップは私を見ても逃げないので、自然と写真にも多く収まります。
